Funny thing about Pilates: some folks think it’s just for women who want to look skinny. Ohhhhhhh, not so!  Although many people use Joe’s system to build an aesthetically sleek body, tons of athletes use his system as a secret weapon for their sport.

Athleticism is the quality of having the kind of strength and energy that makes a great athlete. It takes athleticism to run marathons, play pro football, or sprint down a cobblestone street in high heels without falling.

Athleticism might get you a basketball scholarship to college or help you win most of the tennis matches you play. When you’re particularly good at a sport, people will praise your athleticism. Although it’s usually used with sports, athleticism can describe any quality of strength and energy. It takes musical athleticism to play Ravel’s Gaspard de la nuit on piano. The word is rooted in the Greek athlētēs, “prizefighter or contestant in the games.”  (write up borrowed from

I’ve personally worked with all kinds of athletes: NBA players, MLB players, skeleton racers, fencers, equestrians, runners, cyclists, marathoners, triathletes, figure skaters and more. If you’re an athlete, I guarantee you’ve built some asymmetries in your body that are affecting your sport.  Pilates can help you balance those out, prevent injuries and get your game to the next level.
