Created by Nike Swoosh athletic trainer Christine Binnendyk, Barre Fit combines the best of classical barre conditioning with yoga, Pilates and interval training to lift your seat, tone your thighs and burn fat in record-breaking time.
How Barre Fit works
The Barre Fit system is designed to rebalance your musculature. We work the front-line, back-line, side-lines and spiral-lines of the body to create strength, flexibility and grace. Since 70% of each class is performed standing, you’ll focus heavily on your legs, seat and mid-section. Most people notice changes in their body by the end of week 3…or earlier! Each 4-6 minute work series is followed by 1-2 minutes of stretch.
No worries, the exercises are designed to tone, strengthen and elongate muscles — this is the class that will eliminate bulk and transform your body quickly. Each week, we workout to a new music playlist featuring popular songs and club music from around the world.
“Barre Fit works. My stomach is definitely flatter, my clothes fit better and I am stronger. It’s one of my favorite exercise classes at Nike.”
Where Class Happens
Classes are open exclusively to members of the Nike World Headquarters Fitness Centers. Barre Fit takes place in Studio 2 at the Nike Fitness Center (not at the Bo Fitness Center.) Look for the studio with the barre. Class registration is limited, so that everyone gets individual attention and so that we can accommodate everyone at the barre.
“The classes provide a real workout in an hour that flies by. Christine is a funny and supportive teacher. I love that the exercise lineup changes from one class to the next. “
What to Wear
Stretchy yoga-style clothes work well for class. Avoid super-loose shorts and pants – I’ll need to see your leg alignment, and when we move to the floor, you’ll need to feel comfortable lying on your back with your legs up in the air. I teach barefoot, and most class attendees follow suit. It’s ok to wear grippy socks, soft ballet practice shoes or even athletic training shoes, if you’d prefer. For this type of workout, you’ll get more work out of your body by having as little as possible between your feet and the floor. If you feel like you need more grip, feel free to place a yoga mat at your spot at the barre. Some attendees keep a hand towel to blot up sweat that may fall where you’re standing.
Ah yes, sweat – it’s a good idea to leave time for a quick shower at the end of class. There will be sweat!
“Some friends hadn’t seen me during my first 2 months of Barre Fit class – they immediately wanted to know how I’d changed my body so dramatically and so quickly!”
Classes are 55 minutes long and are sold in month-long increments — 8 classes for $96. This is about half what you’d pay for classes in the Portland metro area! The idea is that you’re committing to coming class 2x a week for a month.

“I have been struggling to lose my baby weight, Christine’s Barre class has given me the motivation and results I need! After 2 week in the class I feel stronger, my pants fit better and my legs are getting lean muscle definition – my husband has even noticed a difference in my derrière! Christine is encouraging and very positive.”

“I was already a believer in Pilates and Yoga, but the Barre Fit classes give me the right combination of cardio, stretching and strengthening. I worked out muscles that must have been hiding for the last 10 years! “
“After each class I felt more in tune with my muscles, and I can finally feel my “core” when I move in my daily life! I recommend it for anyone looking for a way to recharge during the day and kick up their workout routine with a different kind of movement!”
